Questions

What Skald does to your server, who writes the telling, and who gets to read it.

Will it slow down or break my server?

No. Skald never runs on your server and never touches the live world. It reads the copies and logs the server already writes, from outside. There are no mods and nothing to install.

Do I have to run the server myself?

No, but someone has to give Skald read access to the server's files. If you rent a server, the file access in your hosting panel is usually all it needs. If a friend runs it, they can set it up for you. Whoever sets it up confirms that the server is theirs to share, or that its owner agreed, and they can withdraw that access at any time.

Which games does it work with?

Conan Exiles and Windrose today. Every game keeps its record differently, so each one needs its own reader. Tell us which game you play.

Other people play on my server. Are they in my telling?

They can be, as the world sees them: by their character's name, and only for what happened while your character was in the world. Real people play those characters, so nobody you share it with sees a passage that names one until you record that the player agreed. You can use their character's name, or give them another. Until then, that passage is seen by you alone. Your telling is private until you share it, and you choose who can read it: only you, anyone with the link, or everyone.

Who actually writes the telling?

You do, with Skald. Skald uses AI (Anthropic's Claude) to draft each moment of the story from what really happened. You direct it, rewrite any line yourself, or send it back with a note. Anything the draft adds that the record does not show is flagged for you, and nothing becomes part of the story until you accept it.

What happens when my character dies a lot?

In the game you respawn; in the telling, you were hurt and got back up. A long, bad fight where everyone goes down again and again is told as one hard fight, not a string of deaths.

What can Skald see, and what can't it?

It sees what the server writes down, which differs by game. On Windrose that includes who was online together, who went down, quests, building and who took the helm, but not who struck whom. Where the record is silent, you fill it in, or the story leaves it in shadow. Skald never makes up events and passes them off as fact.

What do the people I share it with see?

Only the story. They never see the game facts behind it, your notes, or anything you have not shared. You can also choose whether they see the strands still to come.

Do I need a Lifspel account?

To write a telling, yes. You sign in to Skald with your Lifspel account. To read one that has been shared, no.

What does it cost?

Nothing, while Skald is invite-only. Pricing has not been set.
